'Next' Cosmosphere documentary explores future in space

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Soon to begin playing at the Cosmosphere is a documentary that summarizes the achievements in space exploration up to and including the present moment, before launching into imaginative speculation about where mankind goes from here.

Titled "Space Next," the Afterglow Studios release opens to the public in the Carey Digital Dome Theatre on Sept. 11.

"The road to space has been long and difficult. What came first and what comes next is an inspiring story of human innovation and dedication," a narrator says in the movie's trailer as computer-generated images of futuristic spacecraft are propelled through parts of the galaxy unreachable by modern technology. "Let's find what's next."

While paying homage to the successes of NASA and, more recently, those of private space technology companies, the film also looks into the future of crewed space travel and concepts such as Mars colonization and interstellar travel.

Tickets for screenings can be purchased at the Cosmosphere, 1100 N. Plum St., or online at cosmo.org.
